🦔💐Ceres enters Taurus: Hone a New Craft 💐🦔

On May 8th, asteroid goddess Ceres switched from the sign of Aries to Taurus. Whether you pick up candle making or flower arranging, this bodes an interesting new energy for us within all things nurturing + labor of love.

As always, let's take a deeper look!

🦔 Who was Ceres again? 🦔

First of all, let's remind ourselves what Ceres is all about. What is her medicine? What does she teach us and offer to us? Ceres was the mother of Persephone, the young maiden who was captured and sexually exploited by Greek God of the Underworld, Hades/Pluto. He watched her in the upper world and decided he wanted to have her for his own, so he captured her and tricked her into eating pomegranate seeds which bound her fate to him.

Overcome with deep grief and despair by this loss and violation of the rights to her precious daughter, Ceres, mother of the wheat fields and the harvest (literally where we get the world cereal from) went into a deep mourning. She abandoned all of the growing of the wheat crops in her despair, and farmers began to starve and perish. Realizing they could not let this dysfunction between gods and men go on any further, the other Gods stepped in to make a deal to rectify the situation.

It became agreed that Persephone would spend -- in accordance with the number of pomegranate seeds she ate, 6 -- half of the year above ground with her mother and half of the year below ground with Hades. This gave birth to the four seasons: spring and summer for when Persephone was reunited with her daughter and life/harvest went into full celebration again, and Fall/Winter for when she returned to the underworld and death/loss became prevalent again.

In this way, Ceres represents to us in astrology mothering energy. She is strongly linked to the sign of Cancer, but also has associations with Virgo (wheat and harvest - bearer) and Scorpio (death/rebirth and loss/grief themes). A Ceres in a wonky placement in our chart can trigger unusual associations with mothering, or the loss of or over attachment to being mothered.

🦔 What was Ceres in Aries all about? 🦔

At the beginning of March, I wrote about Ceres going into Aries. (You can check that out at length here.) Ceres in Aries is not exactly a happy placement for Ceres. It puts the energy of the moon (emotions / attachment) with the warrior planet of Mars. This hilights emotional attachment to angst, pushing, driving energy and -- at its worst- antagonism, conflict, warmongering, or generalized aggression.

It meant that we had to rally ourselves to action through the act of mothering ourselves. Huh? Put another way, we absolutely CAN do Mars-inspired things as a way to mother and nourish ourselves. This could be discipline about putting down that cupcake, getting started on a new exercise routine, or kicking your butt into gear to start a new schedule. As all furbaby and human baby Mom's can agree, mothering is anything but being only soft and squishy all the time. It involves knowing when and how to place assertion, fight for a cause, and rally to action. Similar associations to this energy would be Moon in Aries or Mars in Cancer (ironically both of which we are both in right now as I write this!)

🦔 What will Ceres in Taurus teach us? 🦔

Ceres in Taurus will shift the energy from Mars to Venus. This puts the mothering, nurturing quality of Ceres with Venus, much like a moon in Taurus. Taurus is Venus ruled Earth, so this manifests in the form of love for all things physical. This is an excellent time to step up self care and self nurturing with your wardrobe and personal assets. Its also a great time to hone in on new skills! What hobbies and crafts do you want to make and create?

Ceres is the goddess responsible for the cultivation and growth of the wheat fields. What new supportive foods do you want to try? This is a perfect time for recipe making and soothing oneself with savory foods. Like minded placements for this transit would be Venus in Cancer or Moon in Taurus.

🦔How long will Ceres be here for? 🦔

Ceres will remain in Taurus until July 31st, when it will then shift into Gemini. This effectively near three month transit gives us a time to nurture ourselves in all things Venusian: beauty, balance, and delights. Its interesting that this Ceres transit will also coincide with the Jupiter Pisces transit we will be under for a brief spell this year (more to come on that soon). Its as if we are being given a double dose of this nurturing + surrendering energy to really support and soften things in our life for a few months. This is a welcome relief after the Saturn - Uranus squares in Aquarius and Taurus we have been repeatedly under lately, and one that will help us work some much needed water and earth instead (more compatible elements).

🦔 How can we best utilize this energy?🦔

The best way to work this energy is to tune in to your natal chart, and see where Ceres will be personally impacting for you. What house is Taurus for you in your natal chart? Do you have any planets there? Do you have any supportive/strengthening aspects to there? Or challenging/stressful ones? Your own chart will always give you the most precise wisdom to work (and professional astrology sessions with astrologers like moi can always relate help you figure that out!)

In general, some tips I would recommend are:

💐Make a commitment to mindful eating. Pick ingredients of value, ones that truly support and nurture you, and don't run through your body system like fire and ice.

💐Do some meal prepping. I am always amazed at how meal prepping even just one meal the night before can help me approach that meal the next day with so much grace and ease. Meal prepping does not mean creating the whole meal; it can simply be pre-cutting and prechopping up key ingredients, arranging them together, or whipping up the dips, spreads, or precooking the grains that might go with your meal.

💐Don't underestimate the beautiful scents of flowers. Work with fresh flowers in your home and essential oils. I recently am crushing on Patchouli and Frangipani essential oils. I am buying them from a fellow Etsy seller to support small businesses.

💐Choose quality over quantity when it comes to buying things. Instead of having three kitchen gadgets that "Sort of" work; donate those and buy one really good one you know and love. Donate unused clothes or clothes you never wear, and treat yourself to a few good pieces you love and will want to wear often. Its even better if you can buy them from a small business or local shop.
