🌞👑 Crown Making at Litha for Solar Activation 👑🌞

On June 20th - 21st, the Sun will bless us (in the Northern Hemisphere) with the summer solstice and the longest day of sunshine of the year. This is also known as Litha in the pagan tradition, and is a wonderful time to harness the extra energies of the sun's rays potent at this time.

Within that same window of time we have the Sun entering Cancer and officially kicking off the summer energy. Its cardinal water flowing ways bode good energy as it trines Jupiter in the coming week. In fact, the entire upcoming week is a great time to celebrate the sun!

Litha, or Summer Solstice, is the time in which we get to soak up solar energy to its maximum capacity. Although the sun doesn't necessarily peak in astrology until Leo season (ruled by the Sun), Litha and the start of the Cancer season is when we officially get to celebrate summer's start.

This is a great time to charge your crystals, make some solar charged water, and get outside as much as possible. Remember, solstices activate energy that we work through for the next 6 months ahead. This Litha activation closes out the key themes activated from the Winter Solstice in late 2020. The eclipse season we have been going through mirrors this bookending of 6 month cycles starting and ending as well.

As I love to do, I wanted to share a fun craft-able to revel in this newest Wheel of the Year pagan way!

P.S. I've adapted this craft and made it entirely my own way, but I also have to give credit to the magical Athena Perrakis for the original idea on making this magical craft.

👑You Will Need:

- a light colored headband 0.75" or more wide (enough in width to decorate)

- 4-5 sari ribbons in solar colors (yellows, oranges, reds)

- hot glue gun

- sunflower seeds

- anointing oil (intentionally chosen)

- sparkly adornments

- 2-3 small crystals of choice (aligned with desired intentions)

- Optional: glitter or unused sparkly eyeshadow

Ready? Okay, let's craft!

👑Step 1: Set up Your Sari 👑

The sari ribbons can be bought in bulk and used for crafting again and again. I bought mine on Etsy, but you can grab some on Amazon here. The sari silk will likely come tightly bundled. Untangle it and isolate out the solar inspired colors you are going to use. I chose bright oranges for mine.

Tip: You may need to cut ends off as you do this, as sometimes the ribbons are sewn end to end.

👑Step 2: Set up Your Work Space 👑

Use an empty packaging material or brown paper bag to set up a portable work mat. Arrange all materials on there in one place. I found some yellow glitter to add to my setup, along with lots of exciting decorative items and sparkly things. You do need to do this craft inside to make use of the hot glue gun, but don't worry there will be plenty of time to take solar selfies when you are done!

👑Step 3: Anoint with Your Oil 👑

Take your chosen anointing oil and uncap it, being careful to remain above your work mat. I chose Dragon Perfume from Sage Goddess, as its fiery notes remind me of protection, healing, and the element of fire -- all very much like what our sun does for us. Alternatives you could work with include essential oils bergamot, lemon, rosemary, or Ylang Ylang. All of these convey a bright and "yellow" scent.

Carefully, anoint various dabs of the oil across the headband. This is to secure the headband with the energy of the oils properties and consecrate it as a sacred tool. As an added bonus, its scent will linger for many moons to come!

Tip: There will be some mess, so this is why the work mat is essential. Also, work with an oil that's ok to spare a bit of spillage from, i.e. not extremely rare or costly.

👑Step 4: Let the Ribbons Begin 👑

Now, begin attaching your ribbons to the headband. I applied a spot of glue first, then tied the ribbon in a knot around that spot, and then a bow. Its a bit overkill, but you want to really make sure the ribbons are secure, as if they are moving around it won't make things very pretty at all once you get to the subsequent steps.

Tip: Plan ahead, approximating where you will place certain crystals. You may want to have two "bookend" ribbons on each side as I did, or you might want something entirely different. Let the chosen layout that speaks best to you be your guide.

👑Step 5: Begin the Adornments! 👑

Next comes the most fun part! Begin adding your crystals and other goodies. I had two small paper/wood birds that were so perfect to attach to my headband and complement my chosen theme.

Tip: Place a larger sized crystal in the middle to create as a focus piece.

I worked with crystals of amber, azurite, and citrine and I complemented with gluable sparkle "buttons" I had. My chosen chakras I intended for this piece were throat and sacral, so I worked in themes of blue and orange.

As an added bonus, I arranged areas with sunflower seeds to add extra "sun themed" effect. Consider that this solstice is the birthing of the next 6 month chapter of your life, so "seed" this time with the intentions you want to manifest.

👑Step 6: Solar Charge it Up 👑

Continue this pattern of alternate gluing crystals, seeds, and sparkly adornments until...voila!

Solar Activation magic! In order to really complete this process, make sure you charge this tool up in full sunlight for at least a couple hours.

Make sure to also keep this high out of reach of pets and/or kiddos, as the glue may still be setting.

👑Step 7: Take Some Solar Selfies 👑

Then, of course... take some solar selfies!

This is a chance to play, laugh, be silly, and appreciate the beauty and fun of this solar inspired crafting. I had so much fun taking selfies in the sun 🌞

👑Step 8: Love On & Appreciate 👑

Finally, take some time to sit with your new Wheel of the Year tool and love on and appreciate it. It turned out the headpiece complemented my dress perfectly that day, and I was in heaven soaking up the bright orange vibes.

Tip: This craft can be a fun way to teach kiddos about the Wheel of the Year! They can help pick out the crystals and attach the ribbons. Just make sure you are supervising them while the glue gun is in use. Don't hesitate to share with me your solar selfies if you make this craft!
