On Sept 20th, the asteroid goddess Juno will enter Scorpio. I love working the asteroid goddesses into my astrology readings. Why? Well, partly because as a steward of the divine feminine it is so important we carry that torch of re-recognition into all that we do.
We as a collective continue to rediscover our integration of the divine feminine (once very prominent in ancient types but then suppressed). This, combined, with the ever evolving nature of astrology can ensure we work cyclical periods of healing and not always just linear ones. Consider that Chiron wasn't even discovered until 1977 and Pluto until 1930. The basic components of transformation and healing were only discovered in the past century!
Let’s ponder who the asteroid goddess Juno is and what she may bring forth in this three month transit this rest of 2020 (Sept 20 - Dec 18).
Who is Juno?
Juno (plotted as asteroid #3 in birth charts) is the goddess of marriage & loyalty. She is all about marriage, long term commitments and bonding. Juno (also known as Hera) was Zeus's wife. She was his loyal partner, even through alllllllllllll of his shady dealings with other women, nymphs and more. In many ways, she is the anti-Lilith. She stuck it through with him even when she could have done better to move on or seek better for herself. Instead, she satisfied herself with revenge!
What was Juno’s story?
Juno would often catch Zeus in his shady dealings and punish (sometimes him but more often than not his adultresses) those who took part in indulgences. In return, Zeus would react in anger or retaliation trying to assert his own dominance, and so the cycle of misuse and abuse of power between the couple would continue. Think the movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith but played out on Mt. Olympus.
These two were often not working it out between each other but through the interplay of other people involved. Juno can represent the capacity to come together in love and compromise, but if the relationship is imbalanced it becomes exactly the opposite of that. In this way, Juno can also represent revenge on a partner when there is deception, betrayal, or imbalances of power in a relationship. She can also represent the cat and mouse games a couple can play with one another when there is overall a lack of equality.
What can our personal Juno teach us?
- the qualities you most desire in a long term, committed partner
- what types of energies you might embody in shadow if that person does not fulfill those desires
- the personality types that you remain most loyal to / revere the most
- where you romanticize equality and "your other half" energy in your chart
What will Juno transiting in Scorpio teach us?
Juno is most closely linked to Libra energy for her strong pair bonding and relationship vibes. Interestingly, though, she also has a Scorpio component. The parts of her that became jealous and sought revenge, represents the projection of her own hurt feelings about betrayal and cheating. With Juno transiting through Scorpio, relationships that have lies, deception, or betrayal may be brought further to the light to be healed and transformed. In its positive aspect, this transit has the potential to heal unknown or darker shadowy aspects of a relationship that need healing. In its shadow aspect, this transit can represent noticing these signs and symptoms but not acting upon them in a healthy way and, instead, choosing to go into stealth mode, seek out revenge, or brutally cut them out of your life.
Each person’s situation is unique and there is no right or wrong answer here. But with Mars transiting retrograde in Aries, we need to be careful of misuse of our masculine energy and personal power. Seek ways to be strong, assertive, and transform, oh, yes! But do so in a way that nourishes YOU and does not entangle you in cat and mouse games that drain you of personal happiness and self worth. As India.Arie’s song would say, “Just do you!”
